In the year 1999 at a young age of 16, I decided "I'm
going to make myself a tank top." Whatever possessed
me, I'll never know. I ventured to a local Farmers
Market and bought a little piece of pink paisley
fabric from an Amish woman, dug through an old bag of
needle and thread my parents had for button and hole
repairs and went to work.
My mother was there with me, saying "You don't even
have a sewing machine!" Like I didn't know this
already...lol, but I was prepared to sew this sucker
by hand. I had no patterns, only a tape measure and my
own body to work off of. I cut the pieces, got some
old shoes laces for the straps and a tie in the middle
and made a tank top in a little over an hour.
and here it is!

(This tank top is not for sale)
Now came the time to try it on. I was so nervous!!
I've always been so crafty, succeeding in making
almost anything I tried, but could I make a tank top
from scratch with no pattern or a sewing machine?
Turns out I could! It fit beautifully and I still wear
it to this day. It's still holding up after all this
time even without any repairs!

So began my adventures. Shortly after, I spring
cleaned houses so that I could save to buy a sewing
machine. I recently upgraded that sewing machine to a
Brother XR-65. About 3 years ago, I started selling my
clothing on Ebay. What a wonderful source for young
people like myself to sell items and make a little
extra money! I was thrilled with the results and
starting making everything I could think of ranging
from tank tops, pants, shirts, skirts and dresses to
tapestries, blankets, curtains and pillows.
So brought about my desire to be more "professional"
and buy a serger which has caused a
significant change in my sewing.

I've always desired my own website, always believed
in myself and had the support of others to follow my
dreams. So that's what I am doing here. It's as simple
as that. Because of YOU, I am here. Because of GOD who gave me this gift, I bring to you
Gmajanisew.com. The name coming from the ridicule I
received in school for wearing hippie style clothing,
from the kids calling me "Grandma" and my love for the
music of Janis Joplin. Several years later, here I am
actually happy I had to go through it all to arrive where I am today.

Learn to be different, to be yourself and follow
your dreams no matter who wants to hold that against
you. GOD made you who you are for a reason, and there
will ALWAYS be someone there to give you support.
Thank YOU for all the support.
